On June 23  I went to Shades of Beauty women of Inspiration Brunch& Award Ceremony.The  Shades of Beauty program is for   girls who learn self-esteem and vision-building. Every two years  Shades of Beauty who is a part of Hip Hop 4Life selects 10-15 young ladies who entering in to the 10th grade will participate. Then it was  the award ceremony, the Honorees for the awards was: Deja "Deja Vu" Parker, Ingrid Thomas-Clark,  Sabah Ayoub, Michaela Angela Davis, and Rosa Delgado.

Be Cool. Be Kind.

Today I attended the launch of the pro-kindness campaign, “Be Cool. Be Kind.”, which took took place at Mott Hall Bridges Academy in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Dee Vazquez, hosted the event and introduced  Ms. Michaela Angela Davis who talked about the history of making the campaign.  She said it was important for the girls to understand what it means to “Be kind and help girls to be cool with one another.”

My favorite part was the panel because everyone  shared there experiences with bullying. The panel included Ms. Michaela; Ms. Diane (Guidance Counselor from PS 11), Dr. Wendi Williams (Professor from LIU), my mom, Nadia Lopez (Principal of Mott Hall Bridges Academy) and Diondra Sims (Scholar from Mott Hall Bridges). I thought it was brave of Diondra to go on the stage to talk about her past and how people bullied or teased her about her weight, clothing, and hair. She also shared how she use to bully other people to release the pain she was feeling.

Finally Marty Markowitz was there, he is the Borough President of Brooklyn. He was thanked my mom for  hosting the event and him talk to the audience also the girl scouts, girls inc, and mentoring programs.

Mad Free!!!!!

On Saturday, May 4, I went to a MAD Free event, hosted by Michaela angela Davis, with my mom. The event took place at the Ultra Vintage located in Brooklyn, New York.  The purpose was  to pay tribute to the Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin mother, by writing her a personal message on a sheet of paper. How creative you got, was really up to you. I wrote peace, love, justice, and hope for in my tribute because she is dealing with a lot of stress and I want to make her feel better.

After we finished, Miss Michaela shared the story about the death of her brother who passed away when he was also seventeen years old, like Trayvon. She interviewed her mother who was cried when she explained how much she missed her son and how much her life changed. It was emotional and I was glad that I could share the time with my mom.

A Chopped Chef Experience

On Sunday, April  1, 2012  I had a fun time meeting with Michele Ragusis, who was the Head Chef of Beast and Dutch Boy in Brooklyn, N.Y. After seeing her on the Food Network's show "Chopped", thought she was cool and asked my mom if I could interview her.

At first I was nervous, but Ms. Michele, was really nice and she answered all of my questions.

C: What inspired you to cook?

M:  My mother inspired me to cook.  So I'm Greek-Italian and my mom was constantly in the kitchen from the time I was a little kid, she was just cooking away.

C: Is she your greatest supporter?

M:  Yeah, I think she's my greatest supporter.

C: Why?

M: She loves food and much as I do and taught me to love it so much and I think she is proud of me following in her footsteps.

C: From all of the shows on the Food Network, why did you choose to be on "Chopped"?

M: I chose to be on "Chopped" because I think it challenges me and I like a challenge. Being able to go into a basket and cook something I don't know and do it in a certain time is fun.

C: When I get older, I want to be a chef, can you give me and other kids my age advice on how we can do this.

M: I think if you love food and really pay attention to fresh ingredients and culinary school is good option so you can learn about sauces,  how to break down thinks and take classes in butchering to really prepare for it. Also know that it is a really hard industry, so you have to be willing to work 13, 14, 15 hours, on your feet.  So if this is something that you would want to do go for it, go to culinary art school.

PARTY LIKE A ROCK STAR

 

On Saturday, November 5th, my mom threw me a surprised 10th birthday party at The Candy Rush, in Brooklyn. I was sooooo shocked by all the guests who were hiding in the backyard until I opened the door to yell "SUPRISE".  It felt like my heart stopped for a minute.

Everyone who attended signed my super giant card that my mom made for people to write me birthday wishes. I felt so special to see how much people love me.








 

There were cupcakes, pink and silver beads for everyone to wear and cute give aways.

High Heels and High Tea

Today I went to the Ladies who Lunch with Latisha event, hosted by fashion designer Latisha Daring in NYC with my mom, Nadia Lopez who is the principal of a middle school named Mott Hall Bridges Academy in Brooklyn.

The purpose was to bring young women together and share their stories and give advice. My mom spoke about her challenges and her journey to be where she is now. 

 

 She also had some of her parents and scholars in the audience too.

The food was good and the tea beverages were mixed by Nucomme of Witches Brew.

Tracey Balan is a fabulous hair stylist.  She is very chic.

 Sonia Alleyne of Black Enterprise shared a lot of information.

Ms. Demetria Lucas aka Belle lives in BK, she is relationship expert and has her own book, "A Belle in Brooklyn".

Renae Bluitt she is a public relations expert and has a blog called "In Her Shoes Blog".

 

Black Girls Rock!!

On Saturday, October 15, 2011 my Mom and I went to the Black Girl Rock Award Show, taped in the Bronx at The Paradise Theatre. It was a huge event created by Ms. Beverly Bond! While I was there I was inspired by all the women who ROCK. Taraji P. Henson, Angela Davis, Laura J. Richie, Tatyana Ali, and Shirley Caesar were the few who were honored.

I took a picture with Mrs. Richie, the president of the WNBA, I started to cry because I never experienced meeting someone like her before.

I met Lil Mama, that was exciting, I like her as a judge on America's Best Dance Crew.

Tatyana Ali was really nice and looked pretty in her dress.  

K. Foxx, Hot 97 DJ.  Sometimes I get to listen to her on the radio in the morning.

Next time, I hope to meet  Lauri Ann Gibson the choreographer on her own show, "Born to Dance".
